Main Types of Handrails for Stairs
- Straight Handrails: Classified as simple due to their standard design and quality, these are the most common type. They are typically installed on straight staircases with a single flight. The design consists of round-shaped parallel handrails attached to the floor slab using metal rods. Staircases with these handrails are both safe and highly reliable. Additionally, their overall appearance is quite stylish, fitting perfectly into various interiors.
- Curved Handrails: As the name suggests, these are designed for staircases with curves. The most appealing option is a structure that follows the staircase’s contours, typically used for spiral staircases. In such cases, the handrails seem to “embrace” the steps. Stainless steel is the best material for these handrails due to its malleability and long-lasting properties. In some designs, the first set of straight handrails is installed up to the curve, followed by the curved section.
- Protective Handrails: Commonly used in areas with a high risk of injury for children or pets. The structure includes handrails installed at arm level, with longitudinal or transverse stainless steel rods in the lower section for added safety.
- Glass and Stainless Steel Combination: These handrails resemble protective ones, except that the steel rods are replaced with glass panels, which can be either transparent or frosted. Such handrails are more suitable for official or formal settings.
- Lightweight Handrails: A great option when there is a need to visually expand the space and add lightness to the staircase design. In this variant, the handrails are long tubes mounted to the wall, either with square or round cross-sections.
